tela araneae: (latin, spider web)
The temporary and intricate matrices of visible and invisible life are evoked by the spider and its enchanting web. The spider embodies the ancient soul of existence that echoes creativity and predation. Like a grate whose centre looks to infinity, the spider’s web implies the instinctual patterns of behaviour in which the dark and luminous action of the psyche is felt. The spider is nature, eternally spinning its plots of vitality and devastation, the threads of dreams and visions vibrating with meanings that feed the soul and its transformations.
tela araneae is a design and tailoring atelier based in Amsterdam, founded by artist and costume designer Darsha Golova. The practice is the result of over a decade of exploration in garment making, costume design, and textile-based work.
Operating as a one-person atelier, tela araneae creates custom garments, costumes, and bespoke textile pieces upon request. The practice works with private clients as well as cultural productions, including film, theatre, performance, and staged events. Collaboration is central to the atelier’s approach, and partnerships with artists, creatives, and institutions are welcomed. Alongside commissioned work, this webshop presents an expanding line of ludic and elegant, often translucent activewear, available as one-of-a-kind pieces or made-to-order designs.
tela araneae maintains an in-house archive of original patterns and a curated selection of fine textiles, which form the basis of each project. Darsha brings both creative sensitivity and technical expertise to each collaboration shaping garments that support the narrative while remaining expressive and functional.
